Finished Final Fantasy II.. my second time. I was in a bit more hurry than I would've liked, though, as my copy of Crisis Core arrived in the mail today, and I was itching to get to play it. So I skipped further playing around with the Arcane Sanctuary, and just beat my way through Jade Passage and Pandemonium...one thing I don't like about that game is that the Emperor is a total joke for a final boss. Doesn't hit nearly hard enough.
I really, really didn't get it at first. But turns out the thing is kinda simple. Just continue feeding the portals words until you get a boss fight. The same in the other two...err...shrines? I think they were shrines in English, but I played this through in Japanese and just switched to English to check stuff like the Arcane Sanctuary place names, so I'm not 100% certain. Other than that, the Sanctuary itself managed to confuse me momentarily with its numerous levels of stairwells leading to the High Sanctuary. I even backtracked one level at one point to see if anything would change, before reaching the last floor. xD;
I wonder how many different kinds of weapons in total you can get from that dude there. I just gave him のばら/Wild Rose (I always default to that when confused), and got Gungnir for my efforts. Which none of my people can even use, even after going through all of Jade Passage and Pandemonium. I'm guessing you're gonna need a maxed stat in that weapon type to wield it, but this is a pure stab in the dark. I should probably check it. My Frioniel (Firion..but that name's started annoying me more and more lately. I'll just use the Japanese one) usually uses lances, you see.
There seem to be pretty many words obtainable in the labyrinths. I wonder how many in total... I have one such 'extra' word (Greed) left over from my third labyrinth, and I know I've probably missed some. Been going through the words in the order I've obtained them in the story, except inserting in the 'extra' words right after getting them.
(one labyrinth level that especially bothers me is the Mysidia one. I beat the Gigas and all, and the statue just told me I'm naughty, or something like that. >.>) Will have to play around more with it (and Soul of Rebirth) later.
So, since I finished FF2, I started on FF7 Crisis Core, just like I thought to do. For once. xD; What struck me immediately is that I might have made a mistake in getting the English version. The voices really bug me. I love Angeal's Japanese voice, it fits him so well. And infinitely better than the English one, I think. The shock of realizing that the voice in the beginning is his was...not pleasant. And Sephiroth's English voice is, as usual, quite horrid. Not to mention that jarring effect in my head whenever the English!Zack opens his mouth... I'm just way too used to the Japanese!Zack.
Now I'm really hoping for an International version. Even if they don't release one (the odds of that just came up a while ago though, with FF7DC International..), I'll get it in Japanese anyway. I doubt I could take playing through Crisis Core in English more than once. .__.
Other than the voices.. I'm not surprised with all the hype, but the game is really good. Addicting, with all those bite-sized missions. Gives the 'just one more..' effect.
Also considering how I haven't played other PSP games than FF remakes and ports on it (you know, plus Lumines), the graphics were a bit of a shock, no matter how many times I've seen screenshots of it. That thing looks amazing! My hopes for FF Agito XIII just went up a notch. =D
